DATADYNE HIND ATTACK
As the thick jungle canopies give way to a large clearing, the cover afforded to Joanna Dark has been summarily dismissed. Now vulnerable as she charges through the open field, Joanna soon hears the tell-tale swishing of chopper blades approaching. Seeking shelter behind an outcrop, the agent withdraws her Machine Gun as the dataDyne Hind bears down on her from above…
MISSION OBJECTIVES:
• LOCATE AND DESTROY CYBORG FACTORY
• DEFEAT MINK HUNTER
In this mission you’ll be controlling Joanna and the aiming reticle of her Machine Gun independently of one another. If you press the directional pad left or right, you’ll leave the shelter of the rock cover as you move horizontally – holding the B button and then moving the directional pad will allow to reposition your aiming reticle. You won’t be able to move the aiming reticle and Joanna at the same time, so you’ll need to make a decision and commit to it, adjusting each on the fly. You’ll want to start by repositioning the reticle so that you’re aiming at the mounted guns on the far end of the wings first, then rush out, holding A to fire.
As long as you’re situated behind the rocks, the dataDyne Hind won’t be able to reach you – the same rules apply to you however, as you won’t be able to hit the Hind with a single bullet unless you’ve dashed out into the fray. You’ll want to attack in passes, running and shooting at the same time until you can make it to the shelter on either side. If you’ve targeted the mounted guns on the far end of the wings effectively, you’ll notice that they flash white when damaged by Machine Gun fire. Keep making successive passes, doing your best to keep firing and eventually the mounted guns will explode, disabling them permanently.
The warheads next to the mounted guns will serve as your next target, with two on each wing. You’ll be constantly peppered with Air-to-surface missiles from the warheads as you dash across the stretch of field. Once you’ve managed to take out the first warhead on either the right wing, or the left wing, you’ll need to focus your efforts on the opposite wing to eliminate the second warhead. As soon as you’ve destroyed the exterior warheads, you’ll find that the interior warheads are susceptible to damage at the same time. Use the cover to strategize the best reticle placement and then dash out onto the field guns blazing.
When the dataDyne Hind loses all four of its warheads, it loses the ability to fire Air-to-surface missiles entirely. Its only defense remaining is a small mounted Machine Gun underneath the cockpit. The Machine Gun fires very quickly, and should be considered equally as dangerous as the Air-to-surface missiles before it. Continue dashing back and forth between the shelter, focusing your reticle on the Machine gun and you’ll eventually do enough damage to decommission the Machine Gun for a short period of time. In this state, the Hind can do little more than hover overhead, as you’ve eliminated all of its defenses.
It won’t be long until the Machine Gun is recommissioned, so while it’s being repaired you’ll need to aim your reticle on the window of the cockpit and open fire. You’re free to continue using the shelter to dash back and forth if you prefer, though if the Machine Gun has been recently taken out, you can stand in the middle of the field aiming upwards in an attempt to take out the Hind before sufficient repairs can be made. The cockpit window serves as the last stage of the dataDyne Hind Attack – although the Machine Gun will return, you don’t need to necessarily focus your efforts on taking it out each and every time.
The second you’ve managed to take out the cockpit window, you’ll witness the dataDyne Hind smoke and explode internally as it drifts from sight. It’s all over now. The Hind streaks across the sky, failing under its own power as exhaust fumes from its crippled body. It makes a nosedive for the South American clearing and the next second it crumples and twists on impact, leaving no survivors. Observing the wreckage from the outcrop, Joanna Dark witnesses the smoking dataDyne craft for a few moments longer before she leaves the shelter behind and makes her way to the Cyborg Factory…
