PELAGIC I ESCAPE
Leaping into the cockpit, Joanna reaches the controls as a deafening explosion grips the Pelagic I. With the alien craft now obliterated from within its hold, the structure of the ship has been compromised, allowing a torrent of water to rush into the lowest decks. As the ship begins to break apart and sink into the depths, Joanna steels herself at the controls and initiates the flight sequence. Breathing a sigh of relief as she reaches altitude, Joanna’s solace is cut short as the radar indicates something closing in on her position…
MISSION OBJECTIVES:
• DESTROY PELAGIC I
• ESCAPE USING SHIPS HELICOPTER
As you take off, you’ll be pursued by a dataDyne Speedboat that tracks your position from below. Gliding effortlessly across the choppy surface, the Speedboat will continuously fire a pair of twin missiles at your helicopter. You’ll want to give yourself as much reaction time as possible; maneuver the helicopter to the farthest point at the top of the screen and be prepared to glide to the left or right depending on the path of the missiles. As long as you keep moving, the missiles will never be able to target onto your position, as their intended flight path will always target the location your helicopter occupied during the initial firing.
You’ll only be able to withstand six consecutive strikes and remain airborne, so do what you can to avoid taking direct hits from the Speedboat whilst alternatively drifting to the left and right. This mission is quite short, as you’ll only need to keep up your strafing flight pattern for a total of forty seconds, which is rather painless if you’ve been forced to restart the objective. Once you’ve crossed the 40 second threshold, you’ll soar over an outcrop dotting the shoreline below – the Speedboat can do nothing to avoid grounding itself however, smashing into the shore and ending the pursuit on the rocks with a spectacular explosion.
Out of dataDyne’s grasp at last, Joanna charts a path towards the horizon away from the views of South America. The agent radios her callsign as she connects with the Institute to speak with Daniel Carrington…
Daniel Carrington: Joanna, it’s good to see you. We feared the worse when we heard you’d been captured.
Joanna Dark: It was a little tricky, but I’ve been well trained.
Daniel Carrington: How did you escape?
Joanna Dark: You wouldn’t believe me if I told you. The crash site was being cleared as I got there. dataDyne were well organized. I was captured at the crash site and transferred with the wreckage to the hold of the Pelagic I research vessel.
Daniel Carrington: Did you see the wreckage?
Joanna Dark: Yes, it was an alien vessel.
Daniel Carrington: Alien?
Joanna Dark: Belonging to a race called the Skedar.
Daniel Carrington: And dataDyne knew this all along?
Joanna Dark: It would seem that dataDyne are heavily involved. It was difficult to discover any further details. The Pelagic I is now resting on the ocean floor, although I don’t think dataDyne will leave it there for very long.
