Challenge 15: Take out the Trash!

CHALLENGE 15: TAKE OUT THE TRASH

Scenario: Nobody likes creepy crawlies, especially when they’re minding their own business and not bothering anyone, the cads! As Cooper, you’ll have to venture into the Garbage Yard and clear out all 30 Spiders by any means possible. While there isn’t a time limit to send you rushing through this challenge, your attacks will be restricted somewhat, allowing only a maximum of 9 attacks to take out all thirty eight-legged freaks. Use the items at your disposal carefully and make every shot count to draw yourself closer to the Platinum medal…

Strategy: Akin to our last challenge, we don’t want to go out rushing into the heat of battle without a proper strategy. In this case, the Spiders will remain completely still for a time, allowing us to take advantage of the situation from the get go! As you start off, you should manage to spot a collection of garbage cans to your immediate left, walk over and hoist the nearest over your head and then face off slightly to the left. You should manage to spot a trio of Spiders just ahead here, and with our current can over our heads, we’re just about ready to go for Spider bowling! Line your shot up carefully, and when you think it’s all well and good, hurl the bouldering can towards the Spiders. If you haven’t hit all of the Spiders, it’s easier to restart the challenge at this point than go through the tedium and turmoil to come out just short in the end. Once you’ve cleared the triple threat in this area, it’s time to grab a second can from our collection and then face off slightly to the right. If you’ve done this correctly you’ll spot another cluster of Spiders in the corner just ahead of the window here. Send this second can careening towards the biding Spiders here and you’ll find your counter drop down to 24 if you’ve lined up your shot to expert precision. We’ll turn back towards our collection of cans from here and then turn around on the spot completely; you should manage to spot another grouping of Spiders just in front of the illuminated chute past the U-Dump Dumpster in this area. Once again, you’ll have to send your can into the fray to take out another trio of Spiders to bring your total to 21. If you’ve managed that, it’s time to take out the last bit of trash with one final can. With our collection depleted, you’ll have to venture towards the untouched trio of trash cans just in front of the U-Dump Dumpster and then venture forward to where we found our third group of Spiders. Once you’ve managed to cross the front of the dumpster you’ll find our final group just to the right situated behind the Dumpster. One final cast from our can will reduce the total Spiders remaining to 18, if you’ve missed even a single Spider up to this point, it’s better to start the challenge over again than try salvaging your current trial. At this point, the Spiders will send in reinforcements, and a total of 12 agile Spiders will drop in to continue where their brothers left off. They’ll refuse to stay put like the previous wave, so we’ll have to lead them towards the U-Dump Dumpster in the center of this area to send them off with a big swing! Once the time is right, grab the edge of the U-Dump Dumpster and you should manage to clear out the current wave – save for a few stragglers if your swing lacked reach. If this is the case, grabbing another garbage can from our second collection will take care of the survivors given enough space. Once that’s out of the way, we’ll find the next wave of Spiders leaping out from inside the rubbish receptacle just in front of our second collection of cans. Remember, there isn’t any sort of time limit here, so stand back and let the Spiders come out at their own pace so that you can get more for your swings. Once you’ve built a nice little line up of your remaining Spiders, it’s time to head off to where we found our very first group at the beginning of the challenge and start rooting through the trash for a few handy items like a weathered chair and an old broom. Make sure that you’ve managed to coax the Spiders in bulking up around you, take a swing and send them skyward; optimally clearing out at least 3-4 Spiders in the process. From here you should be left with a handful of Spiders that you can take care of in a single hit; be sure to crowd around the spawning point so that you can get some insurance and then swing away to bring your counter to 0. If you’ve managed this in just 9 hits, you’ll walk away with the Platinum medal without issue.

Bronze Medal: 30 Spiders defeated after using 17 Attacks.

Silver Medal: 30 Spiders defeated with only 15 Attacks.

Gold Medal: 30 Spiders defeated with only 12 Attacks.

Platinum Medal: 30 Spiders defeated with only 9 Attacks.
