Top 5 Overly Romantic Rare Refrains – Valentines Day Special 2013
So, Valentine’s Day has reared its ugly head and everyone is into a mad fit of depression and forced sentimentality. If you`re single, you’re likely reading this in your underpants, and if you’re partnered, you’re wasting all of your hard earned dosh on chocolates, flowers and oversized teddy bears – also, you should probably put on some pants as well. The site staff on the other hand have little regard for such fickle relationships, and instead have decided to devote themselves entirely to Rare in the hopes that they might one day love us back. That being said, we’re sure that the recently placed restraining order is incorrect, and that Rare is just as capable of giving us a loving caress like we’ve promised them over the phone so many times. To prove our point if this is ever brought up in a court of law, again, we present Rare‘s most loving gestures delivered to us in the form of music – these are the Top 5 Overly Romantic Rare Refrains!
#5. ALL ABOARD THE LOVE BOAT! – BANJO-KAZOOIE: NUTS & BOLTS (XBOX 360)
With the likes of Dallas, Buck Rogers, Dynasty and Lost in Space greeting gamers in Nutty Acres, LogBox 720, the Jiggoseum and the Terrarium of Terror respectively, the most beloved level was set to have a heartfelt theme all its own. Enter the foray of BanjoLand for the first time during your Nuts & Bolts adventure and you’ll be swept away with Rare’s rendition of the theme from The Love Boat – a romantic comedy sitcom (romcomcom) set on the high seas of a 1970’s cruise liner. As the sights of BanjoLand came into view, our taste of nostalgia turned savory when it was backed by this score. Just listen to that wah-wah pedal getting things heated – that funkadelic tunage setting the mood without even trying! Don’t tell anybody, but on that day we just might have thought of BanjoLand as more than just a friend…
#4. REUNITING SCARE-CROSSED LOVERS – GRABBED BY THE GHOULIES (XBOX)
Strip away the gaggle of garish Ghoulies, restless spirits, foreboding nature and scrupulous innuendo, and you’re left with a love story tried and true. When Amber is kidnapped and brought into Ghoulhaven Hall against her will, Cooper is fast on her heels for a rescue. When she is left hideously disfigured via Ghoulification, Cooper braves his worst fears to bring her a cure, and when that goes horribly awry he undergoes some tough love to sort everything right again. After Amber is returned to her former self, the exasperated couple share a moment of solace in the manic mansion with a heartfelt embrace, and the standard quirky Ghoulies theme is swapped for something far more delicate and closer to the heart. On it’s own it’s quite short and forgettable, but when coupled with this reunion it just grabs you – right in the Ghoulies.
#3. OUTRIGHT FOXY LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT – STARFOX ADVENTURES (GAMECUBE)
A female native of Cerinia, Krystal ventures to Krazoa Palace to return the six scattered spirits whose absence heralded the destruction of Dinosaur Planet, though after only freeing a single Krazoa spirit, Krystal was captured and imprisoned in a crystalline cell high above the temple. Her life force slowly draining, and the fate of Sauria depending on the reunion of the Krazoa Spirits, Krystal communicates with Fox McCloud telepathically, begging him to finish what was started. When Fox arrives at the Krazoa Palace to find Krystal, he falls for her instantly as a hot and bothered rendition of the Cape Claw theme sweeps in, complete with sassy trumpets. Even when Fox is brought back to harsh reality by an interrupting Peppy Hare, he manages to sneak one last look as the swooning tune rears up in a swan song. The sly fox!
#2. CANDY IS DANDY, BUT I THINK CANDY MIGHT BE R… – DONKEY KONG 64 (N64)
Abandoning her Save Game post from the original Donkey Kong Country outing, Candy Kong has decided to open up her own music shop during the events of Donkey Kong 64, though her flirtatious gestures seem to follow her where ever she goes. If it wasn’t enough to have this sultry theme trumpet off the moment you step across the threshold, you’ll find your Kong’s panting a little more heavily than usual as Candy struts over to the center of her shop. Her tittering giggles, suggestive salespitch, and her melons! We didn’t even mention her melons! Simply put, Candy Kong will offer the Kong’s a chance grab her watermelon health upgrades for only 3 Banana Coins, what a steal! Her main sell is her instruments though, which she’ll show the Kong’s how to use if they, in her own words, “come a little closer.” Is that a banana, or…?
#1. DANCE TO THE DANCE OF ROMANCE – VIVA PIÑATA (XBOX 360)
If you can manage to build a suitable enough garden to entice a few wandering Piñata‘s to become residents, you’ll have the option of tailoring specific elements to their needs that will increase their happiness and encourage them to procreate with another member of its Piñata species. After a quick race through the garden to collect chocolate coins and couple your infatuated residents together, you’ll bare witness to the romance dance – a specific mating ritual that is unique to each and every Piñata resident. While at first glance they may hardly seem fit to be called ‘romantic’ in any sense, you’ll learn to appreciate the diversity in that no two romance dances are alike. With an eclectic score of 30 songs tailored to get the Piñata‘s in the mood, it’s little wonder that this entry managed to top the charts this Valentine’s Day.
