Top 5 Awesome External Rare Achievements in Other Games

Did you know that there are studios besides Rare that develop games as well? We know, we’re as surprised as you are!
It turns out they’ve been doing it for years, and in an effort to broaden our horizons we’ve been testing the waters outside of Twycross with excellent titles from Volition, Compulsion Games, Eurocom and Visceral Games to name a few.
It seems that we just can’t get over our crippling separation anxiety however, as Rare‘s legacy lives on still with some intriguingly titled achievements that pay homage to our favorite developer and keep us close to shore.
Bring along your gamerscore and get ready to earn some ‘cheevos, as we reveal the relative references behind these loving tributes – these are the Top 5 Awesome External Rare Achievements in Other Games!

#5. THE “CHEATED” ACHIEVEMENT – GOLDENEYE 007: RELOADED (XBOX 360)

The First Person Shooter genre and malicious multiplayer spite have never been the same since Rare released GoldenEye: 007 to the masses, with revolutionary techniques and additions that are now industry standard, its enduring legacy is also aided by a vertically challenged assassin named Oddjob. As we’ve discussed previously, selecting the stout superweapon was dishonorable on all grounds, and reserved solely for morally misguided players; if you used Oddjob, you were cheating, that much was certain. Flash forward to 2010 with Eurocom‘s offering of GoldenEye 007: Reloaded and you’ll find a secret achievement called “Cheated“, which is awarded to players who find themselves worse-off at the hands of Oddjob at least three times in a single match. This clever nod rekindled our rage and echoed our sentiments.

#4. THE “BLAST CORPS” ACHIEVEMENT – DEAD SPACE 3 (XBOX 360)

Agile reflexes, precise control and carnage, carnage, carnage – Blast Corps was Rare‘s critical darling that delivered destruction in spades with mindful demolition. Tasked with paving the way for a malfunctioning missile carrier (arguably the worst kind), Amber, Clark, Wesley and Spike take on the challenge as the aforementioned Blast Corps before departing into space for some galactic blasting. Their paths would seemingly cross with that of Isaac Clarke, protagonist of Dead Space 3 wherein the Blast Corps namesake lent itself to an achievement. If you can manage to obliterate at least 30 enemies in Dead Space 3 using any manner of explosive, you’ll earn the appropriately titled “Blast Corps” achievement outright. Time to get moving!

#3. THE “GOLDEN DAYS” ACHIEVEMENT – PERFECT DARK XBOX LIVE ARCADE (XBOX 360)

Developed by Minecraft masterminds, 4J Studios, the Xbox Live Arcade offering of Perfect Dark existed in a world all its own, with an impressive graphical upgrade and addictive online multiplayer that revitalized Joanna Dark for a new generation. Players harking back to the nostalgic endearment of GoldenEye: 007 could find a quantum of solace in this spiritual sequel, with shared classic levels like Felicity, Temple and Complex along for the conversion. An achievement called “Golden Days” could even be garnered for wistful players who went back to these familiar hunting grounds armed with classic weapons. Once you had managed to complete an entire match on Felicity, Temple or the Complex with your classic cache, your efforts would be acknowledged from 4J Studios with love, intended for your eyes only.

#2. THE “C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER” ACHIEVEMENT – SAINTS ROW: THE THIRD (XBOX 360)

While Double Helix Games and Code Mystics provided jaw-dropping Xbox One renditions of Killer Instinct and Killer Instinct Classic respectively, the cultural impact of KI is grounded further still with the mammoth Saints Row: The Third. Developed by Volition, Inc. and ceremoniously unveiled in the Genkibowl VII DLC addition is an achievement dubbed “C-C-C-Combo Breaker” – a phrase that should be familiar to any Killer Instinct fan worth their weight in quarters. If you hope to snag this ‘cheevo for yourself you’ll need to string a combo worth $150,000 in the oddly branded Sexy Kitten Yarngasm which tasks players with rampaging through a bustling city, rolling a boulder of yarn about like a wooly katamari. No word as of yet if Giant Yarn Ball is the next confirmed KI fighter…

#1. THE “NO BACKPACK BIRD NEEDED” ACHIEVEMENT – CONTRAST (XBOX 360)

Known for its innovation in platforming, collectibles and unorthodox backpack housing and hoarding, Banjo-Kazooie had players seeking sought-after golden Jiggies anywhere they could find them, even plundering sentient chests for their treasure inside. Enter Contrast, a quirky noir puzzler with an emphasis on exploring the shadows where the Bear and Bird have dared not venture. If you can survive the perilous Pirate Ride in Act II, you’ll have the chance to explore the tracks and stumble upon some nautical amenities. Locate a large treasure chest that perpetually opens and closes ala Banjo-Kazooie and you’ll have a chance at plundering, which earns you the achievement “No Backpack Bird Needed“. Take a peek at the Achievement Icon itself and you’ll notice a familiar blue backpack and large golden Jiggy.
