As Dixie and Diddy Kong make their way through Gloomy Gulch, their first challenge presented in the Ghostly Grove might just be enough to literally send them off the edge, as the unforgiving Ghost Ropes are wont to do. While their appearance is hardly frightening, you’re more than likely to scream out in terror as the indecisive ghoul fades in and out of existence. When you’re desperately trying to clamor onto a rope that has the tendency to disappear without warning, it can get a little irritating when your respective Kongs are thrown into a bottomless chasm time and time again. To further test your patience and sanity, learning the ropes will become increasingly difficult as you approach the end of the level, as they’ll phase in and out of existence at an even faster rate. A leap of faith followed by furious cursing to be sure!
#3. TERRIFYING TIME TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS- DIDDY KONG RACING (N64)
While T.T. the Time Trial Stopwatch may be raced as a Ghost in name only, the lack of a proper death at the hands of now-jailed Bumper the Badger doesn’t stop him from appearing on this list for being absolutely and unapologetically irritating on several levels. If you hope to add T.T. to your roster of hardened racing woodland creatures, you’ll have to best every single one of his times on every track in the game. If you can manage to get close to one of T.T.‘s trials at the end of three laps, you’ll go head to head against the shameless clock as his transparent form rockets ahead. If it wasn’t enough to have T.T.‘s Ghost hit every zipper and nail every hairpin curve without error, things take a turn for the worst in Diddy Kong Racing DS wherein you’ll be tasked with besting the stopwatch with every vehicle for a total of 75 races!
#2. WRINKLY KONG’S CLAIRVOYANCE ANNOYANCE – DONKEY KONG 64 (N64)
Hardly letting a little thing like shifting from her mortal coil stop her, Wrinkly Kong appears in the level lobbies of Donkey Kong 64 to provide useful information about the worlds ahead. While her cryptic clues have since been replaced with strategy guides, the slightest nudge towards one of her doors will cause the aging ape to wail from beyond the afterlife and appear in her doorway – even if you didn’t intentionally approach her. Due to her close proximity near the level entrances in lobbies like Gloomy Galleon, you’ll often get too close to her doors without meaning to, sending her ghostly form wailing incessantly and providing information that you didn’t need or want in the first place. While its nice to see the old Kong from our previous adventures, her otherworldly cries and endless advice gets on our nerves fairly quickly.
#1. SHIFTLESS SWINE OPINES ON CRATE OF MINE – BANJO-KAZOOIE: NUTS & BOLTS (XBOX 360)
Seeking out the vehicle crates in Showdown Town is crucial when it comes to upgrading your ride and building more ambitious and imaginative vehicles. The most sought-after parts belong to the Super vehicle category, which provide impressive features in a fraction of the space that the Medium or Large section boasts. Unfortunately, coming across these crates in Showdown Town will prove impossible to shift, as each one houses a Ghostly Pig that is cursed to rest its rear until it hears the crooning call of the Horn vehicle part, which is found much later. It’s entirely possible to pick up every other crate in the game if you’re into ruining the natural progression with glitches like the Flying Trolley, but these Ghost Pigs inspire our rancor with a shiftless attitude that forces us to play the game like it was meant to be played! The horror!
