Top 5 Haunting Locations in Sea of Thieves
Halloween has arrived, and we’re actually branching out from our annual Grabbed by the Ghoulies marathon to launch into the Sea of Thieves Festival of the Damned! We can expect some new spooky developments in Rare‘s latest update, though the sea-faring title has harbored several islands and inlets filled to the brim with fantastical frights since launch, and we’re prepared to show them off now to get you into the holiday spirit proper. If you’re made of stronger stuff, or you’re just looking for a good place to host that Halloween party you’ve been planning, climb aboard your sloop, brigantine or galleon with a crew of fearless Pirates, mark an X on your map (bring along a Gold Striped Pig for luck) – then set sail for these terror-filled territories! These are the Top 5 Haunting Locations in Sea of Thieves!
#5. GRAVEDIGGING FOR GOLD AT THE PEAK OF LONE COVE – SEA OF THIEVES (XBOX ONE)
Set sail North-East from Sanctuary Outpost in the Shores of Plenty and you’ll reach the beckoning sands of Lone Cove; a location that will prove quite lucrative should you manage to arrive with a Riddle or Treasure Map from a member of the Gold Hoarders. There are more than just Captain’s Chests buried on this island however, as Lone Cove is also home to the largest graveyard in all of Sea of Thieves. Many of the Gold Hoarders Quests will have you sinking your spade around this central cemetery, and it can get especially spine-chilling when you’re digging in the dark, the moon suspended overhead as an approaching storm reaches the island. Shh! What’s that sound? Perhaps the Pirates buried here are unwilling to part with their loot so easily…
#4. EXPLORING THE SHRINE CHAMBERS OF SAILOR’S BOUNTY – SEA OF THIEVES (XBOX ONE)
Found South-West of The Spoils of Plenty Shore, Sailor’s Bounty appears at first to be a small chain of islands in the Shores of Plenty, however, descending into the darkness provided by the central sinkhole is where the unsettling nature of the sprawling caverns begin. Illuminated with a ghostly green glow, the Sailor’s Bounty Caves tunnel deep into the island, with a number of large bats soaring around the particularly large chambers. If you aren’t quite squeamish around the creatures of the night, you’ll find the remains of earlier eager explorers scattered amongst the shrines at the end of the underground shaft. This spot would make an interesting place to hold a Halloween hangout for your crew, provided you can find your way back out…
#3. PIRATES LOST AT SEA WILL SAIL INTO THE DEVIL’S SHROUD – SEA OF THIEVES (XBOX ONE)
Provided your crew are equally fearless as they are at inept navigation, reaching the Devil’s Shroud is a simple task as it only requires you to sail towards the edge of the map, and keep sailing into the uncharted waters beyond. Piercing the veil will send tensions high, as the familiar sounds of sailing are drowned out by an unsettling score that serves as the initial warning. If your crew decided to sail further still they’ll witness the sky growing dark as the waters around the ship slowly turn crimson – do not tempt the unknown, for continued sailing will result in your ship being claimed by the Devil’s Shroud, as otherworldly forces tear it apart. If you want to be truly scared this Halloween, try sailing out here with a galleon filled with treasure and get ready to scream…
#2. WANDA’S ILL-FATED ALCHEMY LAB ON WANDERER’S REFUGE – SEA OF THIEVES (XBOX ONE)
Serving as a cautionary tale for those seeking to dispel the Devil’s Shroud, Golden Sands proprietor, Wanda the Weaponsmith overreached her ambitions of fame and glory when she attempted to harness the power of Captain Flamehearts sunken cannon, culminating in a curse that was released during the Cursed Sails campaign. Sailing off towards Wanderer’s Refuge, you can find the alchemy laboratory that Wanda had utilized previously, tucked away from view in a secret grotto. Inside you’ll sense the curse still clinging in the air, her abandoned post serving as both her last mortal dwelling and evidence of her runaway experiment. The ghosts of Wanda’s past live her, and also Salty, her assistant skeletal parrot – always up for a chat, that one.
#1. JOINING THE FERRYMAN ABOARD THE FERRY OF THE DAMNED – SEA OF THIEVES (XBOX ONE)
If there isn’t enough potassium in your diet you’re sure to meet the Ferryman eventually – and when you’ve cronched your last you’ll appear on the Ferry of the Damned, a ghost ship that sails eternally, acting as a pirate purgatory until you can gain access to the land of the living once more. With an ever-present rolling fog, and unsettling ambiance complete with otherworldly whispers and screams, the haunting atmosphere is perfected. You can even communicate with the dead if you’re so inclined, as you’ll rub elbows with other Pirates who have met a grim fate, their earthly appearance looking ghost-like with their voices echoed for good measure. It’s no surprise that the Ferry is popular this time of the year – Pirates are just dying to get here!
