Top 5 Most Anticipated Features of the Sea of Thieves Anniversary Update
With just one sunset separating us from sailing into the Sea of Thieves Anniversary Update, we’ve found ourselves peering through our spyglasses to the horizon with rapt anticipation. Hardly shrouding their spoils this time, Rare has followed the initial trailer reveal with Preview Streams and Behind-the-Scenes coverage throughout the month of April, showcasing the development of the new features and gameplay that we can expect to see in the galleon-sized update.
If you’d like some insight on what’s to come, or you’re interested in our personal picks for the most impactful elements that are due to change the tides of the Sea of Thieves, you’ve come to the right list!
These are the Top 5 Most Anticipated Features of the Sea of Thieves Anniversary Update!
#5. WIELDING THE WEAPONS OF MAST DESTRUCTION – SEA OF THIEVES (XBOX ONE)
Prior to the Anniversary Update, we’ve been staring down opposing galleons and aiming our cannons low enough to breach their hulls, as it stood as the only vulnerable area on the ship. Everything we thought we knew about Ship-to-Ship combat is about to change however, as setting our sights a little higher on opposing masts, capstans and wheels will prove key in our rival crews downfall as highlighted in the Behind-the-Scenes video. This element of destruction will introduce a spate of new tactics and strategies with each encounter with a rival crew, opening up more ways to immobilize and wreak havoc on opposing ships in a merciless struggle for gold and glory. This is one change we can see that may entirely rewrite the rules of combat…
#4. THE HARPOON PROVES TO BE AT THE TIP OF THE SPEAR – SEA OF THIEVES (XBOX ONE)
Drawing us in with its practicality, the Harpoon might just prove to be one of the most versatile tools in a swashbucklers arsenal. Retrieving items from the open waters like the Barrels O’ Plenty or the treasures left behind from a Skeleton Ship can now be safely pulled aboard with a keen eye rather than getting water in your boots. Spot a rival crew on the horizon with a Captain’s Cabin filled with treasure? Impale them with your Harpoon and then reel your ships together for some close combat, or take a shot at their chests and steal the loot out from under them! Hitch onto a Megalodon, or use your skills to initiate a turn on a dime while sailing – the Harpoon is incredibly multi-faceted and we’re looking forward to having it become a ship staple.
#3. COOKING UP REEL EXCITEMENT WITH THE HUNTERS CALL – SEA OF THIEVES (XBOX ONE)
Emerging as the fourth trading company in Sea of Thieves, the Hunter’s Call is set to send pirates reeling with the newfound fishing ability. Trophy catches and rare species are just waiting to be found in the waters of each region, and Merrick will reward your efforts with a new means to achieve Pirate Legend, earning some gold and commendations on the side. What’s more, your catches can be cooked along with meat from pigs, chickens and even Krakens, offering increased vitality as a sort of insurance should you find yourself at the wrong side of a cutlass. As fishing stands as one of the most requested features from players, we have to acknowledge Rare‘s dedication in making sure that the fans are a part of the journey every step of the way.
#2. THE SHORES OF GOLD TELLS ITS OWN TALL TALES – SEA OF THIEVES (XBOX ONE)
Building on the narrative previously established in Sea of Thieves, the Tall Tales update will send it richer still, offering pirates a way to directly engage with the shared lore with their crews. The Shores of Gold is the first glimpse at this vision, introducing new quests entrenched with puzzle solving and hordes of new Skeleton foes that even the most elite of Pirate Legends have never seen. One of the most intriguing features in the Tall Tales is the inclusion of rigged traps which have sent our imaginations running away with us at the thought of exploring abandoned tombs and braving Ancient Puzzle Vaults, the treasure enticingly close only to be lost with one fatal misstep. We can’t wait to be a part of the legends and myths that await us on the Shores of Gold…
#1. THE ARENA OFFERS EXCITEMENT WITH FLEETING COMBAT – SEA OF THIEVES (XBOX ONE)
Announced prior to the Anniversary Update with an explosive trailer all its own, The Arena is a competitive hotbed where galleon fleets and cutthroat crews pit themselves against each other in the pursuit of silver and glory. Twins Lesedi and DeMarco of The Sea Dogs Trading Company head this new match-style mode, offering a battle-hardened means of achieving Pirate Legend. They also own the largest tavern in the Sea of Thieves which gives merciless marauders a moment of respite between the wild ship battles and close combat with other crews. We can’t wait to showcase our ruthless nature in The Arena, taking on rival crews and securing that last second victory – taking a dip in the Sea Dogs Tavern hot tub doesn’t sound too bad either…
