#5. EXHIBITING EXPUNGED ENEMIES – BANJO-KAZOOIE: NUTS & BOLTS (XBOX 360)

Taking a tour of BanjoLand might have you welling up with feelings of nostalgia and fond memories at each exhibit – excluding the rubbish bin filled with Ghoulies, of course. If you manage to pay Mad Monster Mansion a visit however, you’ll find that most of the mammoth mansion is missing, leaving a sprawling cemetery in its place. While the automated tombstones will hardly send chills down your spine, the remaining wooden headstones belong to a few Gruntbot enemies that never made it into the final game – their images plastered haphazardly on the front, and their proper unused names on the reverse. While we would never interact with the likes of “Possessor” or “Dropper“, the Mad Monster Mansion cemetery exhibit has become their final resting place; a fitting end to what never really began in the first place.

#4. ‘CUS THIS IS CHILLER, CHILLER NON-COPYRIGHT – KINECT SPORTS: SEASON TWO (XBOX 360)

Moving from the stadium to the polyandrium now, players were invited into Rares newest sprawling cemetery featured in Kinect Sports: Season Two. If it wasn’t bad enough having leagues of the undead rise from their graves to start the apocalypse, their sole motive was to come after your pizza, conveniently left in the center of a massive dart board in the middle of the cemetery. There is no leftovers to be had in the Zombies VS. Darts Event, so eventually even the most hardcore gamers will succumb to the increasing difficulty, and then join the zombies as an undead drone themselves! Don’t believe us? After the pizza has been devoured you’ll join the Zombies on the board for a quick dance set to a not-quite, but heavily implied take on Michael Jacksons’ Thriller. The pelvic thrusts, the crotch grabs, it’s all far too terrifying!

#3. WATCH YOUR STEP, OR YOU’LL BE IN GRAVE DANGER! – BANJO-KAZOOIE (N64)

Eventually going on to inspire the mostly absent BanjoLand exhibit of the same name, Mad Monster Mansion takes all of the iconic staples of horror and blends them all together in a seamless collaboration intended for players made of stronger stuff. This of course includes a massive cemetery that’s been fenced in to keep unwanted visitors out – or undead residents inside. If you can manage to break into the burial ground, you’ll find that your actions will hardly go unnoticed, as the tombstones will unearth themselves from their plots and chase you around the dilapidated church! To make matters more difficult, the Ripper headstones are hardly discernible from their stone cold counterparts, which means you’ll have little to no warning as the previously stationary slab of granite rips itself from the ground and tries to give you a burial itself!

#2. THE KONGS AND KACKLE IN THE CREEPY CASTLE CRYPT – DONKEY KONG 64 (N64)

Setting itself up as the final world before the Kongs grapple with their big scaly nemesis, Creepy Castle stays true to its namesake as you’ll be forced to explore an ancient acropolis in the dead of night. No Castle is complete without a massive haunted crypt underneath however – as far as we’ve been told – so it comes as no shocker that a gargantuan dungeon can be found as you dig deeper into its disturbing grounds. In a brilliant effort of respecting the dead, you’ll find that a hidden minecart track has been laid through a cemetery trail in a final test of your sanity – if you climb aboard the cart, you’ll be treated to a terrifying trek as gravestones pop up unexpectedly to block your path and the skeletal spirit, Kackle from Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest returns with a bone to pick! Can you survive this surprise ride?

#1. HERE LIES AN UNFORTUNATE NOM DE PLUME – CONKER LIVE & RELOADED (XBOX)

The Spooky chapter of Conker’s Bad Fur Day is filled to the brim with frightening moments, but with the Xbox rendition terror takes a turn for the high-def as the hapless squirrel is set to tour a remodeled cemetery in Conker: Live & Reloaded. Akin to its predecessor, you’ll be tasked with exploring the forgotten cemetery on the lookout for reanimated roadkill that shamble across the foggy plains. If you can take a break from trigger happy antics, and looking out for your better interest with the whole ‘survival’ thing, you’ll find a few questionable tombstones dotting the plains. A previously deceased I. C. Nuts and C. Man are only the tip of the iceberg as you’ll be laughing all the way to the grave – which might be sooner or later depending on when you decided to give up the good fight to go headstone hunting.
