Top V Easter Eggs in Grand Theft Auto V

Ahh… The sparkling shores of San Andreas bring us once again to a serene state of sensual perception. From the treacherous heights of the steep Mt. Chiliad to the windswept desert terrain in Sandy Shores, San Andreas is something to be desired. Right at the heart of San Andreas is none other than the bustling city of Los Santos ripe with strangers and freaks alike. Altogether, San Andreas presents the perfect picture of the California coast line without all of the muggings, murders, and mishaps taking place and perhaps the best part being that Rockstar leaves YOU in control!
…Okay, so Los Santos is still a virtual home to many of those things, but one thing that San Andreas is known for is the overwhelming amount of secrets hidden within the limits of Grand Theft Auto V. So sit back, relax, and pray you don’t encounter Trevor Philips on this journey of the Top V Easter Eggs in Grand Theft Auto V!
#5 – The Ghost of Mount Gordo
This isn’t your average bed time story. No, this grisly tale ends with a frightening image of a ghost girl at the top of Mount Gordo. Her location can be found here and she only appears from 11 p.m. until 12 a.m. in game atop the bloody scrapings of what appears to be the word “Jock.” Speculation links this ghoulish gal to the in-game website of “www.whokilledleonorajohnson.com” which contains a newspaper snippet regarding a happy couple and a not so happy ending. With no conclusive evidence pointing to Jock, he was set free. However, our wiley writer hasn’t ruled out the possibility that Jock is one of her potential predators. This ghostly gal grabbed our attention and floated her way into our Top V Easter Eggs at number 5. Is this the ghost of Jolene Cranley-Evans leading us to clues that could capture her killer once and for all? That’s for YOU to decide. Let us know in the Forums!
#4 – The Infinity 8 Killer
Arguably one of the best features in Grand Theft Auto is the ability to free roam through vast open worlds, and I must say that the developers are phenomenal in portraying artistry through scenery. Whist jaunting through the Great Senora Desert by bicycle, motorcycle, or even on foot, one stumbles upon a frightening bit of poetry scrawled on the rocks surrounded by the number 8:
ONE IS DONE, TWO WAS FUN, THREE TRIED TO RUN
FOUR CALLED MOM, FIVE’S NOT ALIVE, SIX IS NIX
SEVEN’S IN HEAVEN, 8 WON’T WAIT
One can trace these and other nearby rock scribblings to the Sandy Shores home of Merle Abrahams. A man shrouded in mystery who takes the player on an intense serial killer inspired journey of discovering Merle’s true identity as the Infinity 8 Killer. The destination? 8 bodies wrapped in cloth and disposed of under water off the coast of San Andreas. You can find all 8 here on the map. Newspaper clippings within the game provide a detailed account of Merle’s current whereabouts with an included time frame of the events that took place. The terrifying tale of Merle Abrahams takes half of the cake when the Infinity 8 Killer winds his way into our Top V Easter Eggs at number 4. (Get it? Half of the cake? Because four is half of 8? Well, they can’t all be winners…) Can you find connections between these clues that lead them to one another? Let us know over in the Forums!
#3 – Alien Encounters
From crazy abduction stories to evidence of water on mars to UFOs both above and below water, the thought of life on other planets communicating with our world doesn’t seem too far from the truth. Intrigue turns to addiction as these follies of fact or fiction are implemented into the games we know and love. Upon one hundred percent completion of Grand Theft Auto V, three unidentified flying objects can be seen hovering above the winding hills of San Andreas.
The first is located above Fort Zancudo beyond the clouds. The second can be spotted from a viewing station atop Mt. Chiliad and the third is hovering high above Sandy Shores. Each UFO has it’s own characteristics that make them worth checking out. On top of that, a fourth UFO can be found underwater at this location, and during the opening flee from North Yankton, an Alien (Pictured at Left) can be seen if one veers off of the path and looks through the ice beneath the bridge. Whether aliens scare or excite you, these high flying heart-attacks hover their way into our Top V Easter Eggs at number 3. Interestingly enough, many of these UFOs bear markings attributed to the FIB. Could this hint to future Alien themed DLC where the FIB is in control? Let us know your thoughts on this Easter Egg in the forums!
#2 – Cameo Characters
Leading up to the release of Grand Theft Auto V, many sought after the opportunity of shipping Niko Bellic off to Liberty City for one last ride on the Memory-Go-Round. Okay, so the Amusement Park in Grand Theft Auto IV is closed, but that didn’t stop Rockstar from throwing more amusement our direction in Grand Theft Auto V. I mean, how could they ignore the success of their previous installment? As a result, Grand Theft Auto V is ripe with cameos of characters from Liberty City and we’re hopeful that there are more to come.
Our first cameo deals with the Irish Hothead and helpful heist-tician, Packie McCreary. Not only is he a potential “strangers and freaks” mission companion, but he also freely joins your heist team following a successfully completed mission helping him out. His stats are great for a beginning heist, (and he’s fairly cheap, too) so he’s worth getting early on in the game.
Our next cameo pertains to one of Niko’s better friends, Brucie Kibbutz. Brucie’s a total work out junkie notorious for picking up chicks and pumping iron. It’s only right that his Grand Theft Auto V appearance comes in the form of a testimonial for a muscle building chemical called “Bullshark Testosterone.” Chalk one up to Rockstar for being experts in comedic timing.
And what of the two main characters of the fourth installment of the series you ask? At first glance, Rockstar really seems to be lacking in representation of the Bellic boys in the Los Santos area. That is probably for a good reason seeing as they seemed to stir up quite the ruckus in Liberty City. However, their presence isn’t completely forgotten about. Roman, Niko’s cousin and theoretical lifeline in the big city, can be found referenced in several areas in game. The first being mostly internet references with both Niko and Roman having profiles on the Life Invader website as seen on Jimmy DeSanta’s laptop, as well as Roman’s cab company being referenced by Franklin’s cousin Tavell Clinton on Bleeter.biz.
On top of that, one of the most well encrypted Easter Eggs in the game provides a look at a potential Roman Bellic nod. By swimming to this location on the map and diving many feet underwater, you can come across an underwater hatch (pictured above). The hatch is inaccessible, but if you come back at a certain time within the night, a light clicks on and a rat-a-tat-tapping can be heard from the hatch. Many have determined this to be a bit of Morse code and have even decrypted it. As it turns out, it was all a clever ruse to get us to go bowling with our favorite taxi driver once more, Roman Bellic!
Our final cameo comes from that of Niko Bellic and leaves us with several questions. Where is he now? What is his life like now that he’s lived out the events of Liberty City? While having no direct cameos, he appears only in references within the game. First by an under the breath comment that Lester makes in preparations for the first heist, and second, upon taking Packie McCreary back home following his successful mission, he speaks about “his boy Niko” back in Liberty City and the bank heist involved in GTA IV. Otherwise, only bearing so much as a Life Invader profile on Jimmy’s Laptop in Micheal’s home, Niko’s only other cameo comes in GTA Online where he can be selected as a father figure only if someone has purchased the collector’s edition of the game. While the main characters aren’t usually brought back to reprise their roles in future games, cameos will always have a special spot in our hearts and in the Top V Easter Eggs in Grand Theft Auto V at number 2. Are there any other cameos that you’ve found that we haven’t discussed? Take a taxi over to the forums and bowl your ideas our way!
#1 – The Jet Pack
That’s right. Rockstar has taken it upon themselves to unleash the mother-load of all teasers in an image within the cable car building atop Mount Chiliad. Yes, my humble Rareware friends, Rockstar has created the Stop ‘N’ Swop of this generation in the false “promise” that a Jet Pack vehicle exists somewhere within the coding of Grand Theft Auto V. While Rockstar has never directly argued in support of or against the Jet Pack’s appearance in the latest installment of Grand Theft Auto, many argue that there is enough information to support a possibility of it’s existence. This controversial image on the left has induced many a hunt for three specific items believed to be part of a key that unlocks the Jet Pack for use within the game: A UFO, A Cracked Egg, and the Jet Pack itself.
Theories have circulated regarding several main points throughout the game that are of importance. Fort Zancudo, the Altruist Camp, the “Hippie” Camp in the Senora Desert State Park, and the UFO’s flying above the map in several areas are among those locations and items believed to have been a tie in to how someone can obtain the Jet Pack. Ideas have been brought forth using items that aren’t normally accessible in game, such as an elevator directly below the black UFO flying above Fort Zancudo or the Underwater Hatch hidden deep beneath the sea which automatically deactivates any cheats you have activated as you get close to it.
Being that the Jet Pack is one of the most coveted vehicles in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, reaching it’s primary success in San Andreas, it only makes sense that Rockstar would at least leave some mention of it in a game that comes back to the same location. And while this image is all they’ve given us, it’s not enough to crack the egg just yet. With very little information on the subject, the only clues we have to draw on are the images and locations given to us within the game. The overall tease is what sends the Jet Pack skyrocketing it’s way into our Top V Easter Eggs at number 1.
